As Alzheimer's disease progresses, people have a more difficult time expressing themselves. Caretakers may have their own difficulties communicating to people in this condition. For best communication, caretakers should:
Speak in a pleasant tone.
Speak slowly.
Identify themselves before talking.
Talk in a place with few if any distractions.
Give time for responses.
Repeat comments in the same tone of voice.
Refrain from demands.
Avoid slang terms.
